Teknim integrates its Mosaic fire alarm solution with Hikvision devices to improve the protection of people and buildings
Teknim, one of Türkiye's leading manufacturers of advanced burglar and fire alarm systems, has integrated its Mosaic intelligent addressable fire alarm solution with Hikvision's security management software, HikCentral Professional. As a result, Teknim fire alarm panels can be easily connected and monitored along with CCTV operations such as live view, playback, and event notifications. Hikvision spoke to Teknim's Technical Service Manager, Köksal Uzun, to find out more.

Q: Could you please tell us about yourself and about your company? How did it get started, and how has it evolved and grown?
A: Teknim was formed in 2002 from the research and development department of our parent company Bilgi Elektronik A.Ş. Since then, we have established ourselves as one of Türkiye's most successful manufacturers of burglar and fire alarm solutions with more than 140,000 systems installed in more than 30 countries around the world. Some of the world's most iconic buildings are protected with our technology, including a globally renowned landmark in Istanbul.
Q: What does the Mosaic solution do? What are the key benefits for clients?
A: The Mosaic software system acts as the management center for what's known as intelligent addressable fire alarm systems. These are sophisticated systems where all the sensors are connected together in a closed loop and are controlled and monitored using sophisticated algorithms. These detect fires almost immediately and with great accuracy; they are also able to locate a fire with pin-point accuracy. With this new integration, fire alarm and error messages from our sensors are transmitted to HikCentral using the BACnet protocol, where they can augment other data feeds such as those from video cameras. In HikCentral, our alarm feeds form part of a more sophisticated security system where, for example, camera streams can be recorded, screenshots can be tracked and mapped in real time and automatic responses can be configured.
Q: Why did Teknim decide to partner with Hikvision?
A: In order to fully protect their buildings, many of our customers need systems that can work with several different types of sensor including fire alarm and video feeds. So it wasn't a question of whether to partner with another company, it was a question of who to partner with. In this respect, Hikvision seemed the obvious choice. The quality of Hikvision hardware and the flexibility of the software that controls it are well-known. I would also say that the technical service and support that they provide to their clients – or to partners such as us – is second-to-none. As a company, we have known Hikvision for many years and have worked successfully together on a number of projects in the past. I would say that this sense of trust in Hikvision is shared by many of our clients also.
Q: Could you explain how you integrated your Mosaic solution with Hikvision's HikCentral Professional?
A: This was extremely easy since both systems use BACnet which is the industry-standard communication protocol for building automation and control. It is this protocol that enables HikCentral to act as a central control and command environment for multiple systems including lighting control, access control, video monitoring and, of course, fire detection. Integrating Mosaic into this environment, therefore, didn't take long at all.
Q: How do you see your partnership with Hikvision evolving and growing in the future?
A: The initial phase of the partnership integrates Mosaic fire and error messages with Hikvision's video capabilities. The plan is to augment this over time to create additional integrations with intercom and speaker systems, access control and intrusion detection.
As a final thought, I would say that, as with all of the best partnerships, this integration is great for our customers, but it is also good news for Hikvision clients. All of them now have a wider product range to choose from. When your number one priority is to preserve life and the unique buildings that people work in or visit, this increased technical choice becomes very important.
