Hikvision product Q&As: Pro Series PTZ cameras with ColorVu for crystal-clear, close-up video, even at night
Hikvision PTZ cameras have always been great for protecting large areas, and for focusing in on relevant objects during security incidents. But the latest range of Hikvision Pro Series PTZ cameras with integrated ColorVu technology take security to the next level. They feature super-clear, full-color video imaging, even when cameras zoom in, and even in the lowest-light conditions. We spoke to the Hikvision PTZ Pro Series product manager, Hundt Huang to find out more.
Q: What are Hikvision’s PTZ + ColorVu cameras?
A: Our Pro Series Pan, Tilt and Zoom cameras – ‘PTZ’ for short – are designed to capture high-quality, full-color video images of distant objects during security events by automatically adjusting, focusing, and zooming in on the event. Because they integrate our ColorVu technology, the cameras are able to capture high-quality, full-color video images, even in extremely low light conditions, or at night.
Q: What’s so special about Hikvision’s Pro Series PTZ cameras with ColorVu technology vs. other PTZ cameras?
A: Regular PTZ cameras, of course, also change the angle of the lens and zoom in during security events, but zooming in on objects usually makes the lens aperture smaller, which means that the ability to capture full-color images is reduced. Hikvision’s PTZ + ColorVu cameras overcome this challenge by ensuring that zooming doesn’t reduce either the brightness or color of the image – right down to 0.0005 lux. That’s about the same amount of light as you get on a moonless, starlit night.
Q: How do the Hikvision cameras zoom in, while also capturing crystal-clear, full colour video images?
A: These cameras use a high-resolution varifocal lens with a fixed, large, F1.2 ‘Super Aperture’, alongside a 1/1.2”large sensor that maximizes the use of available light. These technologies allow 14-times more light to enter than traditional PTZ cameras, ensuring that crystal-clear, full-color imaging is possible 24 hours a day. These extraordinary cameras can even work when there is absolutely no light available, in other words, in total darkness, because they have a built in, warm-light LED lamp.
Q: What are the other features of these AIoT cameras and how do they help increase security?
A: The Pro Series PTZ cameras with ColorVu all feature onboard AcuSense AI technology. This differentiates between potential security threats, such as people and vehicles, and other, innocent moving objects such as animals, falling leaves, or heavy rain. As a result, the number of false alarms is dramatically reduced and this, in turn, means that security teams can focus their efforts on responding to real security incidents. At the same time, an alarm is triggered and sent to the security team, or to an alarm receiving center (ARC). This tends to make responses faster and therefore more effective.
Q: How do the cameras work with other Hikvision products to improve security and efficiency?
A: When they work in tandem with Hikvision’s back-end products, the cameras allow users to see even more details in video images during playback. Automatic identification of vehicles or humans means that video footage can be searched much more efficiently. The cameras can also be used in remote security scenarios enabling people to monitor video footage and alerts with their mobile phone.
Q: Where are Pro Series PTZ cameras with ColorVu typically deployed, and what scenarios are they best for?
A: They are ideal for a wide range of security settings and scenarios that require distant deployment, from residential buildings with low-light areas, to larger outdoor areas and sites. These cameras are also ideal for parking garages and other areas where incidents or accidents occur frequently, and where low-light conditions can prevent teams from seeing the details of security events. By showing all the details in full color, these cameras provide a safer environment for communities, residents, and customers, and they also speed up security responses when help is needed.
Q: What are the technical specifications and options in the Pro Series PTZ camera range?
A: There are different Hikvision Pro Series PTZ models available for every security need. These include 2 megapixel cameras with 20x optical zoom capabilities, as well as 4 and 8 megapixel cameras, both with 12x optical zoom. Some models in the range are also equipped with Hikvision LiveGuard, which uses built-in light and sound alarms to deter trespassers in real time and to reduce the risk of theft and damage.
